This may have been talked about many times but I can't find it in the search. What kind of money are we talking about for a FUNDED Driver in the PRO Formula Mazda? Either per race or a whole season? I'm new the site and have seen ads for Drivers but never a cost? If anybody has ever inquired to these team ads, what kind of money are they talking?

One thing you learn quick in racing;
If you gotta ask.... This is really a great question and I applaud him for openly asking. The numbers I hear now are outragous for this class. While I do appreciate what the class is and all about I'm sad to see that it's lost focus of what it stood for all the years. Long gone are the years when a small, private team or father/son could be a formidable contender. While less than other forms of similar racing the gap to FA and others is a rapid blur. Testing, shakers, wind tunnels, engineers, data specialist, tires, updates, yada-yada. Maybe it's just me...probably not...but I long for a return for the old car and what it had to offer in many, many ways. |

I don't want to high jack this thread, but what the hell...........
Yes, the kings and the knights of yesteryear are gone and the Great Hall in the once mighty FM castle is empty. But there's a ton of good serviceable equipment out there for old farts who'd rather dice on the weekend at the local track than play a skins game at the local golf course. So thanks to you, Todd and the many others who helped build a car and a history that we newbies/gypsies-in-the-palace can use and enjoy. It's obviously up to us now to keep this class alive and well and prove the car still has a lot to offer at the club level. And in that spirit of true camraderie, has anyone followed the Purple Frog's "Road to the Runoffs" saga on ApexSpeed? www.apexspeed.com/forums/...ge=1&pp=25 Now that'll bring a tear to your eye. Here's a plan you may not have thought of:
A) Handsome Young Stud Plan Find the local watering hole where the 40-50 y/o divorcee's hang out. Start cruising this scene until you land the appropriate candidate. By appropriate, I mean the un-godly rich, took her cheatin' ex old man to the proverbial cleaners to the tune of something like 3.5 mill, PLUS 50k/mo "lifestyle" fund. Rock her world for at least a few weeks, then turn the tap off. She will then inevitably call you, or possibly show up at Wendy's, wondering what she did to deserve this. Now is the time to set the hook: Patiently explain to her that you are hopelessly addicted "...and not just to you baby, but racin' cars", and the fact that it's expensive and you have to work this, PLUS the job at The Galleria, hawking cell phones. "If there was just some other way I could come up with the needed funds, I could be spending all that extra time with you"... B) Old(er) Wealthy Guy: Remove Platinum Visa from wallet and hand to nice man. C) Regular Guy Off The Street: Scrape, borrow, beg (Hey, it's all the rage, just check your local metro area off-ramp for good examples), but DO NOT steal the needed funds to procure a clean used FM. Campaign this thing, and learn as much as you can by aligning yourself with the local go fast guys. Paddock next to them and offer to clean their wheels, or polish their motorhome, something, anything (short of doing weird things to animals, or having weird things done to you w/ inattimate objects. NO, I'm not speaking from experience) to ingratiate yourself to the star players. After awhile, you'll pick up speed until one day you may even podium! Perhaps w/i a few more races involving attrition, and a flat tire or three you'll be standing on the top step of the box, all smiles, knowing that you have earned this thing the old fashioned way - you earned it! No rich divorcee, or corporate funds diversion involved here! All it took was your own natural talent, honed to a razors edge by continued immersion in the roiling cauldron of competition known as Regional Club Racing. Hopefully by now you have begun to make a name for yourself and will be the object/subject of much paddock banter... "Did you see Guiseppe Go Fast smoke the other 4 dudes in the combined FA/FC/FM/CSR/DSR/FS/ASR race? OMG dude, that guy's headin' for Europe..." D) Currently Established Racer w/ Talent and Connections: 250-300k/yr. I hope this helps! Sincerely, GC |
