Indianapolis, IN
Mario Moraes who was a World Speed driver in 2003 with World Speed Motorsports is gridded in 7th position for this weekend's Indy 500. He was one of nine drivers to lead the Indianapolis 500 in 2008. Moraes, a rookie last season in the IndyCar Series, is driving for KV Racing Technology this season. Moraes drove for WSM in 2003 and won multiple races in the Formula Renault series. He battled and beat Marco Andretti while racing for World Speed, and he is gridded right next to his old nemesis who qualified in 8th.
"Mario was great to work with and was very aggressive even though he was very young," stated WSM Operations Manager Mark Milazzo. "It's nice to see that he out qualified Andretti for this weekend's race and that he is only 1.5 miles per hour off of Helio's pole time. This is going to be a great race."
Since the first Indy 500 in 1911, the speedway and the race remain among the sporting world's most celebrated fixtures. The race, which is expected to have over 200,000 people in attendance on Sunday, starts at noon and is being broadcast on ABC.
